Becoming the Church

Acts 13:1-3 - Your Mission if You Choose to Accept It - Oct 15, 2017

Have you responded to the call of God to salvation in him?
Can you tell the story of your spiritual journey? If someone
asked you how you came to be a Christian, what would you
say?

Have you responded to the call of God to grow and mature in
Christ? What steps have you taken to make that happen? Is
there anyone in our church who serves as a kind of mentor to
you?

How would you say your spiritual life and understanding of the
Lord has changed in the last 5 years?

Have you responded to the call of God to do ministry? What
kind of ministry? A felt needs ministry? A discipleship
ministry?

What limitation do you have that might prohibit your ability to
do that ministry? Have you taken that limitation to God and
asked him to make up for it?

Are you looking to Christ to strengthen you to live the Christian
life and be a blessing in our church and the world around you?

Acts 8 & 10 - Crossing Boundaries - Oct. 1, 2017

How do you view change?  Is it because God is against you or because he wants to put you into a particular place to do a particular ministry?

Do you tend to be attracted to people who are very different from you or do you tend to avoid people who are very different from you?  Are you curious about or suspicious of people who are different from you?

Have you ever reached out to a person who was very different from you because you could tell they were hurting and needed something that you could provide for them?

Do you think people generally feel welcomed at our church or are there “signs” that you think turn people away?  What could you do to make sure new people feel more welcome here among us?

Is there any kind of ministry that you think is desperately needed in our community that our church doesn’t address?  Would you be willing to head up that new ministry initiative?

Acts 6 - What's Your Role

What need of yours has ever been ministered to by this or any church?

What need of society do you think churches ought to minister to?

What kind of ministry are you attracted to?  In other words, what do you see people doing around here that make you say to yourself, “I could do that.”?

Have you received and embraced the gospel?  How well do you understand the gospel? Do you think you could verbalize it for anyone who asks you what it is?

Acts 4 - Distinct from the Rest - Sept 3, 2017

Have you ever had a relationship that became strained because of your faith in Christ?  Did you expect that to happen? What was the result?

Why do you think that someone’s faith in Christ may cause them to have friction with another person?

What are some Bible passages that come to mind when you think about reconciliation with God and with others?

In what ways have you been intentional about separating yourself from the world?  (When I say “world” where, I don’t mean the earth, I mean non-Christian lifestyle and influence which doesn’t please God.)

What unintentional, consequential separation has taken place?

How do you react to people with whom you are separated because of your faith in Christ?  How do you view people who do not approve of Christ, Christianity, or Christians?

Please take a few moments to pray for some people you are close to who do not believe in Christ.  Pray for their reconciliation with God.

Acts 2 – The Church Gets Launched – August 27th, 2017

What do you think would be the best strategy for church growth?  If you were trying to grow a local congregation, who would you try to reach out to and how?

Is church growth mostly a practical venture or a mystical one?  In other words, is it more marketing or more miracle?  To which one would you more likely lean?

Have you ever learned a foreign language? Have you ever used it to really communicate to someone who spoke that language?  How good of a communicator are you?

If someone asked you to present the gospel to them, could you do it?  If someone asked you to tell them about how God was working in your life, would you be able to testify about something he is doing or has done for you?

Write down the names of 3 people you know who don’t follow Christ.

Commit to praying for them and ask God to give you a chance to share the gospel with them sometime in the near future.

Acts 1 - Becoming the Church - August 20, 2017

Becoming the Church – Acts Chapter One

What do you think the Mission of the Church is?  Why do we meet?  What does God intend to do through us?

What do you think is the vision God has for the worldwide Church?  What about for our local congregation?

Do you ever think of other churches in the area or around the country or around the world as being an extension of us and who we are?  What is your attitude toward them?

Do you think you, as a believer, have any kind of mission for how you think God wants to use your life for His purposes?  Do you have any kind of vision for what you think God wants to accomplish through you in the different compartments of your life?

Do you know how to present the gospel?  Take out a piece of paper, or open a Word document.  Imagine someone came up to you and said, “I’d like to hear the gospel.  Can you tell it to me?”  Now, write out what you’d say back to them.  Do you think that is a good, accurate gospel presentation?
