This year marks the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation led by Martin Luther. Below are 5 tenets of faith that were emphasized by Luther and other theologians of the time.
Sola Scriptura – We believe that the Holy Bible alone is the basis for all of our faith and practice.
Solus Christus – We believe that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone.
Sola Gratia – We believe that salvation is only available because our Gracious God reached out to us first with mercy.
Sola Fide – We believe that salvation comes through our response of Faith alone to God’s grace extended to us and not from works of righteousness or ceremony.
Soli Deo Gloria – We believe that God deserves all honor and glory for his works in us and in our world and that the pursuit of our lives should be to seek the glory of God and enjoy a relationship with him.
What authorities are you often tempted to believe in besides the Bible?
What other avenues of salvation, justification, or righteousness are you tempted to rest in?
What other glories are you tempted to seek besides God?
When was the last time you sat down and examined your life and tried to re-align the way you live with how God desires for us to live? How would you go about doing that?
